2020 HAS BEEN A MESSY YEAR.

PLASTIC POLLUTION IS AT AN ALL-TIME HIGH. AND ALTHOUGH THE LITTER MIGHT NOT BE OURS, THE PROBLEM AND CONSEQUENCES ARE.

BUT, IF THERE’S A GROUP OF PEOPLE THAT CAN COME TOGETHER LIKE NO OTHER AND SET AN EXAMPLE FOR THE REST OF THE WORLD, IT’S THE RUNNING COMMUNITY! SO, WE’RE ASKING YOU TO GO THE EXTRA MILE!

we organised a 3-DAY, GLOBAL PLOGATHON FROM
4 - 6 DECEMBER 2020.

Disposable face masks littered in a water drain, with text 'Our rivers start here.'

Where it ends

Water systems and rivers are all connected to the ocean. Every year, around 8.8 million tons of plastic ends up in the oceans.

Shockingly, 90% of plastic polluting our oceans is carried by just 10 rivers!

Where it starts

Did you know? 80% of the plastic litter that ends up polluting the oceans comes from land.

When plastic litter in a street, community or village ends up in a drain or river… it will eventually make its way to the ocean.

Discarded face masks in a drainage channel with the text 'OUR RIVERS START HERE' on a blue banner.

BY 2050 THERE WILL BE MORE PLASTIC IN THE OCEAN THAN FISH, UNLESS WE STEP UP.

PLOGGING IS A SUPER EASY AND FEEL-GOOD WAY FOR US RUNNERS AND HIKERS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE … AND IT’S GREAT EXERCISE TOO!
