Every year, RUN BLUE mobilises people to run around World Water Day on March 22nd.

In 2023, it was the largest global run for water EVER!

Our water sources are in need of protection - join the cause to raise awareness and spread the word about our precious water bodies!

WHY FOCUS ON WATER?

In honour of the annual World Water Day, we want to give our community focus on water. Specifically, groundwater, and innovative ways that people around the world have developed to ensure our water supply is protected for generations to come.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Every year the UN hosts the international World water Day on 22 March. This year's theme is groundwater. We want to do this community event in celebration of groundwater and the innovative ways people are working to end water scarcity.

  • We’re glad to have you on board! Please scroll up to register.

  • The event starts on Wednesday, 16 March and endsTuesday, 22 March.

  • There is absolutely no cost involved for participation. Registration is free and open to all.

  • You are more than welcome to either walk or run your pledged distances. However, we unfortunately can’t accept distances that are cycled. We do this as a gesture of fairness, and apologise for any inconvenience. We are looking into future developments that include the awesome cyclists in our community.

  • You can choose either kilometers or miles. Whichever is more comfortable for you to use.

  • You certainly can. The more, the merrier! If you would like to register groups you can do so through the regular sign up form and choose the options to sign up as a group.

  • We largely work on an honour system. You don’t need to submit evidence for every kilometer or mile of your walk or run, but we do strongly encourage you to post photos of your effort to social media with the hashtag #WorldWaterRun. You can also join our Strava club if that’s more suitable to you. If you don’t have Strava, and don’t use social media, please send your photo(s) to hello@thirstfoundation.org.

  • No. The event runs over six days, 16-22 March. You can do your distance over all of those days, spacing them out, or you can run it all on one day. It's up to you.

  • Your race bib will emailed to you soon after registration. On completion of the event on 22 March, we will begin to send out the participation certificates.

  • If you are active on social media, we also really encourage you to make use of our social sharing pack, filled with ready-made images and copy for posts across Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. You do not need to have a big following to make a difference. Even if you only have one person following you on Instagram, that’s one more person who joins us in our fight for our water.
